The Stay in the Bay Part 1 - Are All Dans Good at Fishing?

Ok well for those of you who don't know Dan Le Beck of ISG (you obviously haven't been reading your Carpe It Weekly...) he is one of my work buds and he likes fish.......Anyway that aside on with the days events which should clear up the title for you. I woke up to find Jak was not in the room, so I got up had a look around, went to the toilet and when I couldn't find him, I went back to bed. He returned a few moments later with a carrier bag with some potential breaky in it! My excitement was short lived to find some wierd (and disgusting) Porridge posser, I don't think I need to say much more breakfast was more like cement with a few brick like sugar cubes in.

With the complete failure that was breakfast we headed for the iSite (information centre), we asked about some campsites and rental places for potential things to do. It was 100 bucks each to go up to see cape reanger and 90 mile beach at the very peak of NZ so we gave that a miss and wondered down to a hut on the beach. The hut proved quite cheap but with the weather sailing was out and so we oppted for fishing. Dan the guy in the hut, took the day off and took to the water with us covering the boat and rod hire at a low $120 for the whole afternoon (see now?!?). Dan showed us the ropes and he seemed like a cool guy, Jak was the first one to get a bite, catching a 25 cm snapper (unfortunatly 3cm under the takeable limit). Shortly after that I got a bite with a 30cm one and we killed it ready to take back for tea. Another 4 hours on the water and all we had was a few nibbles with out any more fish :-(. But it was nice to chill out and have a beer whilst admiring the bay. We got back in around half 4 just as it chucked it down drenching us as we tried to get the boat in. It was a fun day on the whole and although the snapper I caught couldn't feed us it was definatly a tastey starter to our steak dinner!! We ended up staying in a hostel again due to the crapy weather, its not advisable to pitch on wet ground. But we were in this lovely place called the pickled parrot! A friend of Dan's Rose ran the place and she was a lovely lady with 3 dogs, a cat and A PARROT! AWESOME!

Anywho stayed tuned because part 2 is coming your way pronto...

Much Love
